Position Type: Full Time
Position Title Associate Chair of Graphic Design
Specialty: Graphic Design, SCAD Atlanta
Work Year: Academic Year
Join SCAD Atlanta as Associate Chair of Graphic Design, and help lead a large, vibrant department aligned with leading trends in emerging media that nurtures award-winning future graphic designers.

In this role, you will manage day-to-day administration of the graphic design department; direct, coordinate and evaluate the department; develop curriculum; foster interdepartmental collaboration; and continue to enhance the reputation of SCAD graphic design in academic and professional circles. You will also oversee the departmental budget, including its development and implementation; work with the admission department to recruit talented undergraduate and graduate students to SCAD and to the department; teach classes annually, as assigned; evaluate professors within the department through class observations, reviews of student evaluations, reviews of service and professional development, and reviews of contributions to the department’s goals; work with the associate dean to provide professional development opportunities for professors; and develop, in consultation with the associate dean and department members, a strategic plan for the department consistent with School of Communication Arts’ goals and overall SCAD strategic plan.

The core of SCAD graphic design is design thinking. This fundamentally creative process — thinking by doing — encourages students to see differently, shift focus, look from multiple perspectives and realize how perception influences meaning. As associate chair, you will guide talented students through this learning process, while enjoying numerous opportunities to collaborate with other SCAD departments at the forefront of diverse fields. This is your chance to work with talented students in a thriving metropolis that is home to Fortune 500 companies, nonprofit organizations, design firms, fine art galleries and more.

The ideal candidate demonstrates innovation, energy and personal and professional integrity as well as the ability to encourage experimentation and help students generate work in a range of styles and media. He or she has proven leadership skills, outstanding interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work with students and faculty of diverse backgrounds and motivate them to think creatively and critically. A unique style, aesthetic and viewpoint, strong drawing skills, published credentials, accolades and industry recognition, extensive experience producing graphic design in both traditional and digital media, and knowledge of the history of graphic design is essential. Experience with curriculum development and college-level teaching is preferred.
