Description:
The TV & Film Podcast Editor works closely with podcast executive producers, producers, and hosts to create interview-based and longform narrative series that are connected to TV shows, films, and the entertainment industry at large. While these shows have a variety of voices, genres, and formats, they are rooted in audience curiosity and bloom into compelling audio. Examples of previous shows include The Chernobyl Podcast, Netflix’s Behind The Scenes, HBO’s I’ll Be Gone In The Dark Podcast, Lovecraft Country Radio, and Okay, Now Listen. While there will be opportunities to be an editor on other podcasts across Pineapple Street Studios, TV & Film will be your priority.
This position can be located in Brooklyn, NY or Los Angeles, CA once we’re back in our offices.
Primary Responsibilities
Under the guidance of the Executive Editor and Head of Partner Editorial, the TV & Film Podcast Editor works closely with hosts and internal production teams on shaping companion series for audio:
Watch a given series/film with a critical, curious eye
Contribute and develop initial show ideas into a workable concept with the production team
Work with producers and talent to storyboard individual episodes and overarching series
Share constructive feedback on interview preps and conversation-based outlines
Offer structural feedback on early drafts, then shape later drafts through line edits/rewrites
Collaborate with hosts or producers to write scripts
Review select tape to help identify the best moments
Give insight on ethical questions around reporting
Communicate precise notes on pacing, transitions, tone and missing content or connections that need to be brought to the surface
Offer practical feedback and suggestions on mixes, scoring choices, audio quality, and more
Consolidate and translate editorial feedback from fact-checkers, partners, and legal counsel into workable solutions for the production team
Participate in pitch and strategic planning meetings
Solicit and vet pitches from outside talent
Be available to proofread metadata and/or ad copy
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have the following:
At least 5 years narrative story and/or interview-based editing experience in any form; audio story editing experience strongly preferred
5-7 years audio experience, whether in production/teaching/editing
Knowledge of broadcast or podcast content editing
A collaborative mindset with an ability to explain edits clearly
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, especially working with strong-willed creative talent
Excellent writing abilities and confidence to understand and write in various styles
Understanding of the audio and TV/film landscape
Passionate about both audio and TV/film
Ability to juggle multiple projects at once and work across geographically-dispersed teams
