The illustration department prepares students for a wide array of professional careers and has fashioned a diverse, focused curriculum that addresses the career needs of the present and future. Our new curriculum includes concentrations for concept design for animation and games, and illustration for entertainment. As a SCAD illustration professor, you will have the opportunity to provide students with the expertise and knowledge in these areas to prepare them for successful careers.

SCAD illustration students have garnered awards and recognition from Applied Arts Magazine, 3X3, CMYK, American Illustration, Creative Quarterly, the Society of Illustrators in New York and Los Angeles, and top honors at Red Dot Design Award competitions in Berlin. They have also partnered with major brands like Coca-Cola, Rubbermaid, Kroger and Lexus. Our students work with publishers like Rolling Stone, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and The New York Times. With enthusiasm and a commitment to excellence, you will motivate students as they create meaningful and memorable visual solutions for corporate partners.

The ideal candidate has excellent digital rendering skills, with 3-D modeling a plus; experience and knowledge of an animation workflow including storyboarding, color scripting and style matching; a keen eye toward the development of well-crafted visual narratives; mastery of illustration and design processes to generate memorable solutions; a desire to mentor exceptional students; and the ability to foster an active and engaging learning environment.

The state of Georgia, and Atlanta in particular, has become a top-level entertainment production center, with dozens of productions underway on any given day. Video games and animation are also becoming an important part of the Atlanta entertainment scene.
With so much cutting-edge entertainment in production in and around Atlanta, there has never been a greater demand for skilled concept artists, visual development artists and character designers, and SCAD is leading the way in providing the very best in creative talent to serve these booming industries.

– Terminal degree or its equivalent in illustration or related field
– At least five years of experience in the field, including concept design, character design, or visual development
– Excellent sketching and visualization capabilities and a strong understanding of linear and atmospheric perspective, figurative illustration, environments, structures and props
