Atlanta Jewish Academy, a private school in Sandy Springs, is seeking a passionate, creative Technical Theater Director for the 2019-
20 school year. The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, will oversee the daily logistics and execution of design, audio and lighting requirements for all Performing Arts events.
Will also be responsible for the creative design, building and organizing of the physical components required to make productions aesthetically and functionally effective.
Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to :
Designing the technical operations of the show, including lighting, audio, video, special effects, set design and construction.
Determine the necessary technical support, and special needs for the show and advise the Director of Performing Arts on lighting, audio, costs and usage of technical equipment required for the show.
Supervise the implementation of approved technical designs.
Ensure a safe work environment for everyone working with or around the stage and technical equipment.
Operate and safeguard the technical assets of the theater, including supervising the use of lighting, sound and communications equipment.
Design and supervise on-stage rigging so that it is safe and appropriately supports the showâ€™s design concept.
Train the stage crew in the manipulation and use of the scenery.
Monitor the condition of and perform the preventative maintenance on the lighting, sound and rigging equipment.
Recommend and arrange for equipment repair within budgetary constraints once approved by the CFO or someone delegated to approve such expenditures.
Monitor and maintain set construction budget guidelines and regularly report the expenses to the CFO.
Supervise and assist with set and stage construction and management.
Make recommendations to the CFO regarding capital purchases and technical equipment.
Attend all production meetings.
Attend all technical week rehearsals to supervise and assist in the technical aspects of mounting each show.
Attend first on-stage rehearsal to orient cast and crew.
Work within deadlines.
Collaborate with colleagues on special projects involving media productions.
Responsible for all seating and stage requirements.
Perform other job related duties as required.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Interact with staff in a positive and professional manner and assist any and all other positions at any time.
Support facility rentals : Orient and assist facility renters and visiting organizations Set up lighting and sound for all facility rentals –
if requested Train and monitor the use of the lighting and audio equipment and operate, if necessary, in order to support the facility renters
Job Requirements :
Bachelor’s degree in theater or other allied fine arts area.
Two years of experience in set design / construction and lighting design is required.
Two years of media production experience is required.
Ability to perform moderate to strenuous lifting is required.
