Lara is an Arab-American narrative and commercial cinematographer. Committed to moving audiences, her imagery is grounded in character, story, emotion, and a sense of place.
Lara’s narrative work has been showcased around the world. Sweet Parents, a feature film, took home top awards at the Brooklyn, Lower East Side, and Montreal World Film Festivals. A My Name Is, a short film, was nominated for Best Cinematography at the Madrid International Film Festival. Most recently, the award-winning short film Pozole took home Best Narrative Short (Comedy) at Cinequest, qualifying it for the 2020 Academy Awards. Lara’s diverse body of commercial work has represented networks and brands such as HBO, Comedy Central, Lifetime, History, CoverGirl, JP Morgan Chase, and Vogue, among others.
Throughout her career, Lara has maintained a love for capturing, and staying out of the way of, truthful performances. She was born in Jordan, lived in several states, and studied film in the Czech Republic and Australia. Her often-‘outsider’ status helped hone her skills as a photographic observer. Lara currently resides in Atlanta, while regularly traveling to NYC, LA, and beyond. She loves creative challenges, ambitious directors, and opportunities to play with genre.
